“I really enjoy the way business skills and tools are incorporated into subjects like sustainability, international development, and design thinking.  It creates a significant value-add within my MBA.”

After graduating college, Megan went to work for a foreign language services startup as a business developer.  She says, “Then I remembered I received by bachelor’s in international studies and Spanish, and I knew nothing about "business" save for my specialization in economics.”

Working at a startup, Megan had the opportunity to work in several different departments within the business and strengthen her entrepreneurial thinking and innovation skills.  Megan says, “I quickly became hooked and was eager to learn more about scaling and growing businesses everywhere.  I also wanted to incorporate my core interests in international development so I began to look for MBA programs that tailored to these specifications.”

Megan was first turned on to MIIS by a former professor who said it was the most valuable, yet non-traditional MBA program she'd ever come across.  After further digging on her own, Megan says, “I remember feeling like MIIS's course offerings and immersive learning programs where tailor-made for my specific interests, and was even more excited to think that there were hundreds of potential fellow classmates who would share those same interests.”

When asked what she enjoys most about the MBA program, Megan replied, “I really enjoy the way business skills and tools are incorporated into subjects like sustainability, international development, and design thinking.  It creates a significant value-add within my MBA.  For instance, in additional to traditional financial calculations, I also know how to calculate the monetary value of a firm's carbon footprint.”

Megan participated in the Frontier Market Scouts special program during the course of her studies at MIIS.  She explains, “I have Frontier Market Scouts to thank for the position I am in today.  The FMS program provided me with a wonderful opportunity working with Village Capital that allowed me to demonstrate my skills and capabilities in the field of social enterprise.  I was able to showcase this experience during my job search and was thrilled at how impressed employers were with the program.  The network of professionals and organizations that support FMS is also invaluable, and continues to serve as a wonderful personal and professional resource.”

Megan currently works for Blue Energy Partners, a small Private Equity Advisory firm.  She explains, “MIIS has prepared me in multiple ways for this position by providing me with basic business skills, the ability to design creative solutions for complex programs, and even the network that comes with being a MIIS alumni.”
