Program: Translation and Localization Management
Undergrad: Sun Yat-Sen University
Fast Fact: Miranda taught Chinese culture classes at high schools in Poland.
“The TLM program combines translation, technology and management together…and that enables me to think like a manager, treat translation as a linguist, and use technology as freely as I wish.”
Miranda majored in English translation and interpretation in college and worked as a teaching assistant in the Computer-Assisted Translation class, where she was introduced to translation memory tools. She said it was then that she realized the localization industry is growing at an astonishing speed and knew she wanted to become part of it.
Mirands says, “I heard of MIIS when I was in college because of its great reputation in the translation and interpretation world. The U.S. has the most mature localization market in the world, while MIIS no doubt possesses the best TLM program in the U.S. The TLM program provides students with field world experience, most-updated technology, and cutting edge concepts.”
Miranda currently holds an intern position as Translation Project Manager at CETRA, Inc. She says about her experience so far, “It is amazing to see everything I learned from class turn into reality...I must say that TLM classes make me more confident and prepared to work as a translation project manager.”
What excites Miranda most about the translation and localization industry is technology. Miranda believes that technology will be the fundamental element to change the industry. She says, “…[Perhaps] some day we will have machine translation that can entirely replace human translators.”
