Based in Quito, Ecuador, Aimee (MPA '06) now thrives as a social media consultant for sustainable development organizations in Latin America.

Using her Spanish and Portuguese language skills, Aimee's projects include collaborating on a national communications and awareness campaign on climate change in coordination with Ecuador's Ministry of the Environment. She has also contributed to Impact Alliance's "Capacity is Development" Knowledge Fair and the "Changing Life through Football" campaign sponsored by Ashoka Changemakers and Nike. These projects hope to promote change through knowledge sharing and social innovation competitions.

After graduation, Aimee relocated to Ecuador as a Knowledge Management Coordinator for Pact (Building Capacity Worldwide), working with several Monterey Institute colleagues. In fact, the Monterey Institute community - particularly Professor Beryl Levinger and Dean of Career Advising Tate Miller - played supporting roles in helping Aimee land this position and then transition to life as a freelance consultant. Aimee adds that her Public Administration coursework remains invaluable to this today: "I'm applying so much of what I learned from courses like advanced nonprofit management and data analysis in the field."

Aimee first broke into the knowledge management field as an intern for an insurance company when she was an undergraduate student at Boston College. Originally focusing on web design and programming, her role has expanded to helping organizations maximize their impact in the Web 2.0 age. These experiences combined with a life-long appreciation for nature (her father is a park director in Connecticut) have led her down this professional path.

Aimee anticipates more and more job opportunities for social media and communications consultants. NGOs are realizing the value of a "strategic, professional, and coordinated effort" in these areas: since non-profits are operating in an increasingly competitive environment, they must invest in promoting their work to wider audiences.
