Bulbul Ahammed graduated from the Monterey Institute in May 2010. Prior to coming to the Institute, Bulbul worked as a Cross-Cultural Trainer for Peace Corps Bangladesh and as an Administrative Officer for a French garment buying house. He also held a position with the Bangladesh Bank, which is similar to the Federal Reserve in the United States, as an Assistant Director of the banking inspection department.

MIIS Ranks #4 in Nation Among Peace Corps Graduate Programs

With 16 participants currently in service, the Monterey Institute of International Studies ranks fourth for the number of students participating in a Peace Corps Master’s International Program, the Peace Corps announced today. Sixty-one graduate schools now offer Peace Corps Master’s International programs. This year’s top five schools -- based on the number of Masters International participants serving as Peace Corps volunteers overseas as of September 30, 2009 -- are:

Students typically enroll in classes at the Monterey Institute hoping to gain knowledge and training that will help them in their future careers. They don’t necessarily expect to have a particular class lead directly to landing their first post-graduation job.

Business Plan Competition Workshop Featured on KION

A Tuesday night workshop at the Monterey Institute earned local TV coverage.for a competition designed to give Central Coast entrepreneurs a boost. The third of three workshops at MIIS (and the last of 10 throughout the area) offered entrepreneurs tips for competing effectively in the 2010 Monterey Bay Regional Business Plan Competition.

Professor Jinhuei Dai: Designing a New Language Learning Model

Professor Jinhuei Dai is a pioneer of innovative teaching and learning strategies. She advocates a "sustainable model" for teaching the Chinese language to policy students from a wide range of language levels and academic interests. MIIS Alumnus in Haiti Interviewed on BBC Radio

Michael Goble (MBA ’90), one of the four Monterey Institute alumni known to be working on relief efforts in Haiti, was interviewed by BBC Radio over the weekend about the situation there. An employee of the United Nations’ Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Goble is currently serving as an administrator at the Port-au-Prince airport’s makeshift morgue.

Institute Dean Quoted Widely on Google and China

Yuwei Shi, dean of the Institute’s Graduate School of International Policy and Management, was quoted today in a Reuters story regarding Google’s recent threat to pull out of China.
