Having been an exchange student herself in high school and college, Belinda Braunstein (MATESOL '93) has a personal appreciation for international education.

"I greatly value the experience that international students have," Belinda says. "I want to contribute to making it a powerful one."

For the past 20 years, she has been doing just that, teaching and working with international students. She is currently the English Language Institute Coordinator at the University of California, Merced. Most of her work there is supporting students who came to the United States as children and grew up speaking a language other than English at home.

"I feel so empowered to make a difference," she says about her current position. "I am continually challenged and inspired by my job."

After two decades of teaching and working in international education, Belinda says she still "never stops learning" from her students.  Her advice to students who want to work in international education is to never stop developing professionally.

"Attend conferences, workshops, certificate programs, or anything that will help you keep up with changing times, give you fresh ideas, and inspire you," she says. "This will help you grow professionally and personally.
