“The TLM program has really given me the freedom to study exactly what I want to, and pursue a business foundation certificate as well!”
Alex Flores arrived at MIIS with prior managerial experience at language schools as well as her TEFL/TESOL certificate. Prior to attending MIIS, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to focus on translation or management. Alex says, “To my surprise, I learned that MIIS offered a translation and localization management program, which pretty much merges both of those careers. I no longer had to choose!”
“What I like most about the TLM program is that the courses are very interesting and directly prepare you for the types of tools and systems that you would encounter in this line of work. In addition to the core courses, there are also many business courses to choose from. The TLM program has really given me the freedom to study exactly what I want to, and pursue a business foundation certificate as well!”
Alex landed an internship as a project manager for a game, software, and website localization company in Brussels, Belgium for the summer of 2012. Some of her responsibilities included vendor management, project schedule planning, quote and invoice creation, file preparation and finalization, QA, translation memory management, and copyrighting.
Alex explains, “It is without a doubt that the TLM program's course material, demanding workload, and supportive and knowledgeable professors, along with my experience in managerial positions in the past, made me a qualified candidate for [my] internship... I feel lucky to have had professors such as Uwe Muegge and Max Troyer.”
