MIIS Translation and Interpretation Programs Lauded in Deseret News

“Multiply the Good” Challenge Hits First-Year Fundraising Target, Triggering $500,000 Match

The Monterey Institute of International Studies exceeded the $1 million fundraising target established last October under the terms of a challenge commitment from an anonymous donor, triggering a $500,000 matching gift from the donor. Under the terms of the “Multiply the Good” challenge, the Institute will receive $500,000 a year for a total of five years, provided it raises $1 million each year in gifts of $5,000 or more to its annual fund.
“We are delighted to report this very successful effort to increase leadership-level giving to the Monterey Institute,” said President Sunder Ramaswamy. “This particular donor has witnessed the upward trajectory of the Monterey Institute over the last several years and wants to ensure that the resources are available for us to continue to invest in the tradition of excellence and innovation at MIIS.”
The Multiply the Good campaign for the fiscal year ending June 30 resulted in 55 gifts of $5,000 or more, raising a total of $1,301,130 for the Institute’s annual fund. More than 20 donors made gifts at this level for the first time, something the anonymous donor also hoped to encourage.
Gifts made toward the challenge will support:
- Faculty development and research
- Student financial aid
- Student immersive professional experiences
- Career and advising services
