Are scholarships available to cover the tuition and fees of my summer program as a MIIS graduate student?

Yes, funding for incoming MIIS students may be available through the Yu/Deppman and Ramaswamy Language Scholarship. To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must be admitted to a degree program for fall semester at the Institute.

If you have been required or recommended to attend EPGS as an incoming MIIS student, no additional application is necessary and you will be contacted by the Language & Professional Programs department for further instructions.

    What are the program dates for 2015 and how much does the program cost?

    EPGS will run June 15 - July 31, 2015. The cost of the program is $4,300 and $4,560 for incoming MIIS Translation, Interpretation and Localization Management students. All students must also show proof of health insurance coverage. If you do not have your own Insurance policy, you can purchase coverage through the Institute. These fees do not include living expenses.

    Is there an exam that I am required to pass at the end of this program?

    While there is not a formal exit exam in EPGS, all students must successfully complete their summer English program by receiving passing grades in all of their classes and by meeting attendance requirements.

    What is the weekly EPGS schedule like?

    EPGS is a rigorous program which aims to prepare students for their graduate-level coursework. Students attend English content and skills classes 5 hours each day. These classes are designed to hone the language skills you specifically need to succeed in graduate programs and focus on English for Academic Purposes. You will work on reading and listening strategies, note-taking, research and report writing, and public speaking. You will also meet weekly with a writing tutor for personalized feedback on your assignments.

    In most cases, the results of your TOEFL or IELTS exam indicate that your English language skills need additional improvement in order for you to succeed in our rigorous master’s programs. The admissions committee has decided that you could benefit from more English language exposure and instruction. Successful completion of the EPGS program is a pre-requisite to admission into your graduate school program.

    The seven-week summer intensive English Preparation for Graduate Studies (EPGS) program provides advanced language enhancement courses in English for Academic Purposes customized for students who have been admitted to master's degree programs. This unique, intensive program has two main goals: to give students the language skills and strategies necessary to succeed in an American graduate degree program, and to acclimate participants to graduate student life.
