With this scholarship, can I enroll in 2014 instead of 2013?
No. This scholarship is for the summer of 2013 at Middlebury Language Schools and starting at the Monterey Institute in a master’s program in fall 2013.
When will I know if I have been accepted to both programs?
Applicants should be notified approximately 4-6 weeks after the February 1 deadline.
When is the deadline to apply?
All application materials must be postmarked by February 1, 2013 to the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Applications to the Monterey Institute may be submitted online via the online application and supplemental material can be emailed to admit@miis.edu or mailed to:

What if I want to attend the Middlebury Language Schools, but am not selected as a Betty and David Jones Scholarship recipient?
Admission decisions about the Language School and the scholarship are made separately. If you are admitted to a Middlebury Language School, but not awarded the Betty and David Jones Scholarship, you may still attend the Language School. If you are interested in receiving financial aid consideration for the Language School, you must fill out a separate financial aid application at http://www.middlebury.edu/academics/ls/finaid/.
What if I want to attend the Summer Intensive Language Program (SILP), English Preparation for Graduate Studies (EPGS), or English Preparation for Translation and Interpretation (EPTI) but am not selected as a Betty and David Jones Scholarship recipient?
You will need to submit a separate application to the SILP, EPGS, or EPTI program. Please see our language programs for more information on the application process for these programs.
When do I have to pay my deposits to Middlebury and the Monterey Institute?
A tuition deposit will be due to Middlebury within 2 weeks of the official scholarship award letter. The Monterey Institute requires a $500 tuition deposit to hold a place in a degree program and will be due after applicants are notified of their scholarship status. These scholarships are competitive and selective.
What if I am admitted to the Monterey Institute but am not selected as a Betty and David Jones scholarship recipient?
You may still enroll at the Monterey Institute as long as you meet the language component of the admission requirements prior to starting your first semester of language study. Our Admissions staff can help you with solutions. Email questions to enroll@miis.edu.
Do I need to submit a separate application and deposit for the Monterey Institute Summer Language Program (SILP) or English Preparation for Graduate Students (EPGS), or English Preparation for Translation and Interpretation (EPTI)?
If you are selected as a Betty and David Jones Scholarship recipient for the SILP, EPGS, or EPTI program, you will receive additional information regarding the deposit and short application you will need to submit.
Why do I have to pay a tuition deposit to Middlebury if my expenses will be paid?
Middlebury’s language programs are competitive and selective. They need to be sure you plan to enroll or they will give the slot to another deserving candidate. Scholarship recipients will be reimbursed their deposit upon registration for their summer classes at Middlebury.
