Beth Shigemitsu, a student at the Monterey Institute, has been playing video games her whole life. The video game industry is heavily dominated by the Japanese, so she became interested in learning the Japanese language. Until she came to MIIS, she was completely self-taught; but she wanted something to channel and refine her talent and interest in Japanese into something she could actually use. Now she is studying Translation and Localization Management and focusing on video game localization.
Beth says that she chose MIIS because the program is really well-known, and she wanted to make sure she got an education that wast the best she could possibly get.

"The MIIS Experience in 60 Seconds" features a different student each week from a range of degree programs offered at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. In these short videos, the students elaborate on topics such as why they chose to come to MIIS, what has surprised them about the Monterey Institute, what kinds of cool things they've been involved in—both on and off campus, and more.
