Helping teens discover themselves and become confident in who they are is something that Rebecca Marcus is passionate about. So her DPMI Plus assignment with Futures and Options, a small start-up nonprofit focused on professional development for inner-city teens, was a perfect fit.
"Since I can remember I have enjoyed mentoring others and helping them reach their potential," Rebecca said. "I appreciated the ability to work with such a small and growing organization because I got to experience all aspects of the organization- from fundraising and communications to program planning and execution.
During her time at Futures and Options, Rebecca worked on a summer program that prepared and trained urban high school students for college and helped them obtain paid summer internships. She also designed and facilitated a workshop to teach students about different leadership styles and working collaboratively with others.
"This experience helped me uncover some of the takeaways from my MIIS education—where classes and topics were relevant to the 'real world,'" Rebecca said.
