Fast Fact: Carmen retired from the U.S. Air Force as an Airborne Linguist after 26 years of service.
“I like the fact that all the professors are active in their respective fields; in other words, they practice what they preach.”
Being a linguist in the Air Force not only gave Carmen the opportunity to travel and learn about other cultures, but it also instilled in her a love for language. Carmen says, “When I learned of MIIS, I knew I had found the right institution to complement my love of language.”
Carmen originally started in the Translation and Interpretation program, but quickly realized interpretation was not for her. However, she thoroughly enjoys translation and is fascinated with technology. Once she attending a computer-assisted translation (CAT) class, which peaked her interest in localization, she knew she wanted to pursue the Translation, Localization and Management (TLM) program.
Carmen shares her thoughts so far on the TLM program, “I like the fact that all the professors are active in their respective fields; in other words, they practice what they preach. The field-specific information they impart in class is not only first-hand, but it is up-to-date, too.”
