Before joining the Peace Corps, Catherine Carlton was unsure about what she wanted to do with her life. But it was during that volunteer experience in Zambia that she found her calling.
"Living in a rural community in the African bush, I found my passion in utilizing sustainable agricultural techniques to promote development," Catherine said.
Catherine wanted to go back to school to learn more about her new passion and quickly found that the International Environmental Policy program at the Monterey Institute had what she was looking for.
"After visiting the school I was most impressed by its professional focus, career-development opportunities, and language requirements," she said. "Additionally I was impressed by its focus on international systems rather than just U.S. policy."
Now, after graduating from MIIS, Catherine is back in Africa working with agriculture and development.
"After just a few months in the workforce, I can say MIIS truly does prepare you for a job in the development field."
