Born in Burkina Faso, Awa left her country for the first time to attend the United World College of Canada. During that time, she took a year off to work at a candle workshop in a community center for disabled adults in Maharashtra, India. Awa studies Economics and Political Science at Middlebury College. At Middlebury, she serves as Vice-President of the International Students Organization (ISO). She is also an active member of Umoja (African Students Organization) and the Student Government Institutional Diversity Committee.
