Last summer, David Reichbaum (MPA '09) interned for ProWorld in the Cusco region of Peru. ProWorld provides health, education, and environmental services to developing communities.
David contributed to a project called cocinas mejoradas (or “clean burning stoves”), designed to encourage Peruvian villagers to use energy efficient stoves instead of the traditional methods of cooking over an open flame. These stoves reduce carbon dioxide emissions and promote carbon neutrality. As a ProPeru Fellow, David visited communities, communicated the benefits of this program, and measured outcomes.
This internship marked David’s completion of the Development Project Management Institute (DPMI) Plus program. He earned 12 academic credits through three weeks of intensive coursework followed by a three month internship.
David also had the opportunity to gain professional experience, work in the Spanish language, and enhance his cross-cultural communication skills. After graduating last December, he continues to work with ProPeru.
