Karen taught English in South Korea for two years before coming to the Monterey Institute. Knowing that she wanted to pursue her master's in education, she came to the TESOL program at the Monterey Institute. After taking an introductory course in Language Program Administration, she was certain that she wanted to embark on a journey in administration and management, thus switched her program to International Education Management. During her time with the program, she worked with the Intensive English Department, administered a student-led organization focused on language education, organized a foreign language education conference, and served as a representative for this new program.
Gaining an immense amount of skills and knowledge inside and outside the classroom, Karen would like to continue working in the higher education sector serving domestic and international students by offering them a chance to see the world in a different perspective through developing intercultural competency and understanding the responsibilities of global citizenship.
“I am continuing my work with Middlebury Monterey Summer Intensive College English (Summer ICE). Having done the preparation for Summer ICE's inaugural year, working in Newport in the summer, and working on the strategic plan last semester, I have become quite familiar with the ins and outs of the program. My projects will include revamping the orientation program, creating activities and presentation slides to compliment the orientation program, creating a promotional video for Summer ICE, etc.”
