Students with Families

In Student Services we are committed to assisting all MIIS students with their transition to graduate school, including students who have their own families. Returning to graduate school while also being a parent can be a stressful endeavor. Here are some local resources to help ease that transition.

Primary and Secondary School Information

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District services the cities of Monterey, Seaside, Marina and Del Rey Oaks. For more information about the schools, primary and secondary, available in these areas please visit their website.

Pacific Grove Unified School District

The Pacific Grove Unified School District services the city of Pacific Grove. Pacific Grove is a lovely, quiet community to live in with one of the best public high schools on the Monterey Peninsula.

Carmel Unified School District

The Carmel Unified School District serves Carmel-by-the-Sea and the Carmel Valley. They have excellent public primary and secondary schools, and the location is not too far from the Institute campus.

North Monterey County School District

The North Monterey County School District serves all of North Monterey County, which includes the city of Salinas. Located approximately 30 minutes north of Monterey, Salinas is an easy commute to your classes.

The Monterey County Head Start program provides students from low-income families with the tools to grow and excel in the primary school environment.

Monterey Bay Kids is a great resource for finding fun activities to do with your kids in the area. It has information on family friendly beaches, parks, camps and other extracurricular activities that are available to you.

My Museum

My Museum is an interactive, hands-on discovery museum for kids. It is a great place to take your family and let your children play and learn in a friendly environment that encourages curiosity.

Childcare, Preschool and Day School Information

Being a student means that you will not always be able to spend all of the time you want with your children while you are attending classes. Below you will find some helpful information for daytime childcare should you need arrange this for your children.

Childcare Smiles provides information on various preschool options in the Monterey area. It is a great tool to use when looking for schooling options for your young children.


Finding a pediatrician can be a challenge, especially when you have just relocated to a new community. Here are a few pediatricians in the community that MIIS students have taken their children to in the past. If you know of good pediatrician who is not listed here, let Student Services know.
