Participate in the MIIS Friendship Program

  • Are you interesting in getting to know a U.S. family?
  • Do you wish to experience life outside the Monterey campus?
  • Would you like to meet people in the local community?

If so, we invite you to participate in the MIIS International Friendship Program.  The program matches interested international as well as foreign-born U.S. students with local families with the idea of facilitating new relationships.  For students, this is a very unique opportunity to learn about the U.S. culture and also a chance to share some of their own experience and background. The local families are not expected to provide students with a place to stay, but rather to invite students to explore life outside of the campus.  Our hope is that you will form a friendship that will last beyond your time here at the Monterey Institute.

If you are interested in the program, please fill out and submit the Student Questionnaire.

The deadline for submissions is August 13, 2012.

Local Families

The MIIS International Friendship Program offers Monterey Institute international students a chance to connect with a local person or family.  It is a friendship program that provides an opportunity for local people to share their community with international students through invitations to join the host for a meal, a community event or simply to explore life outside the campus.

Students meet the families they have been matched with each fall at a reception hosted by the MIIS eMIISsaries affinity group.  From that point on, the program is what you and your international student make of it.  Some families and students meet regularly for lunch, while others meet periodically throughout the year and primarily during vacation periods.  Our hope is that you will form a friendship that will last far beyond the student's time at MIIS.

If you would like to get involved please fill out the Family Questionnaire or contact Eva Gudbergsdottir

The deadline for submissions is August 13, 2012.
