CPT Application Checklist

Steps to Applying for CPT

Follow these steps for a successful CPT application.

1.
Attend a CPT Workshop

Workshops will be held prior and during each semester. Times and locations of these workshops will be communicated via email and also listed on the Events Calendar. If you are unable to attend a workshop, schedule time to talk with the International Student Advisor by emailing visas@miis.edu

2.
Submit the online CPT application
The application will require you to enter information about the work experience and it is recommended that you have the offer letter when completing the form. The job offer letter, unofficial transcript and Academic Advisor's support letter can be uploaded to the online application.  These documents can also be submitted separately to the Office of Student Services.
3.
Review and Approval

Once all documentation is received, the request will be reviewed.  If any addition information is needed, the student will be contacted via their MIIS email address.  Please allow up to one week, once a completed application is received, for a decision on your application. Upon approval of the request, the CPT information will be added to your SEVIS record.  An updated I-20 with CPT information will be printed and an email will be sent to you once ready to pick up.

4.
Pick Up I-20 with CPT Approval

Once you receive an email confirming the CPT has been approved, you will need to pick up the updated I-20 from the Office of Student Services and sign the new document.
