Welcome to the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Whether you are a visitor, a student, or a member of the Institute faculty and staff, the staff of the Security Department are committed to ensuring your stay will be both safe and enjoyable. Our primary goal is to support the overall mission of the Institute by providing the highest level of security services possible.
- Issuance of photo identification cards
- Parking controls, including issuance of permits and parking enforcements
- Conducting after-hours safety escorts (on-campus ONLY)
- Maintaining a lost and found
- Assisting with vehicle lock outs by contacting the tow trucks and locksmith services on behalf of constituents
- Security is also responsible for reporting illegal activities to responsible staff and/or law enforcement, including:
- All activity relating to crimes
- Underage drinking
- Unauthorized possession of alcohol on campus
- Possession of weapons
Campus Security has access to criminal justice information systems records and routinely shares criminal investigations information with the Monterey Police Department, The Monterey County Sheriff's Department and other law enforcement agencies. Statistical information regarding criminal activity of a significant nature is maintained as required by the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the United States Department of Education.
Security escorts are available seven days a week twenty-four hours each day between locations on campus. Security escort services can be accessed by dialing extension 4153 or 647-4153 from an outside line. Additionally, there are direct dial blue campus phones that may be used to directly access Campus Security. Students are encouraged to use the phones anytime Security is needed.
The Campus Security Department operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Business related issues or non-emergency concerns may be brought to the direct attention of the Director of Campus Security during normal business hours 8:30 am 4:30 pm Monday through Friday
Any student, faculty, staff and visitor can report an emergency or crimes in progress on or near campus, by calling 831-647-4153 or picking up an on campus blue phone.
Dial 9-911 from any campus phone.
Dial 911 from any pay phone, cellular phone or regular phone that is not part of the campus telephone system
Special blue Campus Security phones, located strategically throughout the campus, automatically call Campus Security dispatch when the receiver is lifted. Alternatively, Security can be called at extension 4153 from any Institute telephone.
