Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions. 

I need proof of enrollment at MIIS, can you help me?

Email records@miis.edu with your request.  We have an enrollment verification letter we can prepare for you.  Let us know if we should fax or mail the letter or if you want to pick it up. Or you can just stop by and request a letter.

If this is for a loan deferment, go to your lender's website and print out a deferment form. Bring the form to the Records Office and we will certify it for you.  We can then fax or mail the form for you or you can pick it up.

I received an incomplete grade last semester, but now have completed my final deliverable and am ready to turn my work in to the Professor. How does my grade get changed?

Submit a Petition to Change a Grade of Incomplete to the Professor along with your final deliverable(s).  After the Professor signs the form please turn it in at the Records Office. Also, advise our office records@miis.edu to send a Change of Grade form to the Professor. 

I will be graduating next semester, is there anything I need to do?

Complete a Petition to Graduate, this is due at the latest by the third week of your final semester at MIIS. But, you can turn one in anytime.

 

I will graduate in May or August or December, but will be away from campus my final semester on IPSS, DPMI, FMS or some other program; I want to participate in commencement before I leave. Can this be done?

You may walk in an earlier ceremony prior to leaving on your program, or you can walk in the ceremony following your graduation.  If you are walking in an earlier ceremony your Petition to Graduate will be due by the third week of the semester that you are walking in. If you are walking in a later ceremony you must turn in your Petition to Graduate before you leave.

How do I audit a class?

Pick up an Add/Drop form at the Records Office, the Center for Advising and Career Services or at your Graduate School.  Enter the course information on the form and where you would normally list the number of course credits, write in AUDIT.  Have the Professor sign his/her approval.  If you cannot meet with the Professor you may print out an email from the Professor granting you approval to audit the course.  Bring the form to the Records Office and we will register you for the audit.

Can a class be added after the add deadline?

Complete the Petition for Waiver of Academic Regulations, take the form to your Professor for signature approval, if you cannot meet with the Professor you can attach an email approval to the petition.  Bring the form to the Records Office.

                Purpose:                              To add ABCD 8500 A, MIIS Course, after the add deadline.

                Reason for request:             List your reason for adding the class late.

I need to drop a class but it is after the drop deadline, what can I do?

You can petition to withdraw from the course, by completing a Petition for Waiver of Academic Regulation.  When you withdraw from a course, you receive a grade of “W” which is defined as “withdraw with permission”, this does not affect your grade point average.  When you withdraw from a course the credits cannot be reused to take another course later.

                Purpose:                              To withdraw from ABCD 8500 A, MIIS Course

                Reason for request:             List your reason for withdrawing from the class.

I have taken or plan to take courses that I would like to transfer to be used toward my degree at MIIS, what is the process?

Complete a Transfer Petition, attach course descriptions, syllabi, etc. When transferring courses the school must be accredited, level must be graduate level, the course may not have been used to meet a previous degree, and you must receive a grade of “B” or better. The signature of the Dean is required on the petition, for language courses the signature of the Language Advisor is also required, the course must be documented by official transcripts received by the Records Office and transcripts in other than the English language must be accompanied by a certified English translation. I plan to take a Directed Study but Banner is not allowing me to add the course. How do I register?

Complete a Directed Study Proposal form or a Language Directed Study Proposal form available at your Graduate School.

Bring either the proposal form to the Records Office, or bring an add/drop slip with the appropriate signature(s) to the Records Office and we will register you for your directed study. 

Titles for directed studies will not appear on your transcripts until the grades are recorded.  You have 24 letters and/or spaces available for your title.

My prior coursework at another school seems to be identical to one of the courses required for my degree. Can I be waived from taking this course and use those credits to take elective courses?

It may be possible to be waived from a degree requirement, the credits would then become additional elective credits for your degree program.  Complete the Petition for Waiver of Academic Regulations, attach your transcripts, a course description and syllabus. Turn the form in at your Graduate School.  If approved, the waiver will be included in your student file and you will be registered for a waiver course.  You should make an appointment to meet with your academic advisor to review your study plan and make any needed changes.

I need to take a semester or two away from MIIS, what do I do?

Complete a Leave of Absence (LOA) Petition, and turn it in at the Records Office.  This is due by the third day of the semester in which you are taking your leave of absence. Complete LOA procedures are in the MIIS Policy & Standards Manual (PSM).

I will be leaving for the Peace Corps next semester, is there anything I need to do before I leave?

Complete a Leave of Absence Petition PCMI and turn it in at the Records Office.  You should also complete a Petition to Graduate if you have not already done so.

After meeting with my Academic Advisor I have decided that I will not continue my studies at MIIS, is there anything I need to do before I leave?

Yes, please complete the Withdrawal Petition, obtain all signatures required and submit it to the Records Office.

How do I order official transcripts?

How do I order unofficial transcripts?

Complete the UNOFFICIAL Transcript Request form, you can drop it by the Records Office in Casa Fuente, mail it, fax the form or attach it to an email.  Your signature is required on the form.

I lost my diploma and would like a replacement, how do I obtain one?

Complete the Diploma Reprint Request form and turn in at the Records Office.
