* Student fines will be discounted 50% if paid at the same time material is returned.  Overdue and fine notices are sent as a courtesy to patrons; responsibility for fines is not dependent on receipt of notices.
** All lost materials are charged an additional processing fee of $15.00.

The circulation desk closes one half hour before the library closes. Reference books may be checked out during the half hour before the circulation desk closes and are due back during the first hour of the following day.

Renewals

Materials may be renewed online through View Your Record when not overdue or on hold for another user. Items may also be renewed at the circulation desk. Telephone renewals are not permitted.

Reserve Materials

Books, articles and other reserve materials are located at the circulation desk. Loan periods are set by instructors as 2, 24, or 72 hours.  Course reserve listings may be searched via the online catalog.

Returns

Materials may be placed in the outdoor book return slot to the left of the library entrance at any time; or, returns may be placed in the slot at the circulation counter when the library is open. Items placed in the outside book return after closing are credited as returned the following business day.

PHOTOCOPYING SERVICES

There are three photocopiers on the first floor of the library. Machines accepts coins, currency or vendacards. Copies are $.10 when using coins or currency, $.08 when using a vendacard.

Vendacards may be purchased from the vendacard dispenser mounted on the wall across from the circulation desk. A blank (no copies) card is $1.00. Copy credits must be added to blank card before use. Additional copies may be added to a card at any time from the wall dispenser or at any of the three copiers. A refund of $1.00 will be given for a card in good condition that is no longer needed.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN AND DOCUMENT DELIVERY SERVICES

(Available to current MIIS students, faculty and staff only)

Through interlibrary loan the MIIS Library can borrow books from other libraries or obtain copies of articles. Books generally take from five to ten working days to arrive; articles from 24 hours to 10 working days. Requests for loans are limited to materials which the MIIS Library does not own.  Loan periods are determined by the lending library.

Please use the electronic material request forms to make a request for a BOOK or a PERIODICAL article. A separate electronic form for each item must be filled out. A maximum of ten open requests at one time per patron is allowed. An open, returnable request is not closed until the returnable item has been delivered to the MIIS Library for return to the lending library.

Borrowers will be notified by e-mail when a requested item has arrived for pick-up.

REFERENCE SERVICES

A reference librarian is on duty to assist in research and referral questions during most weekday hours and on Sunday. The reference desk in located on the first floor in the main reading room area. Reference inquiries may be made in person, by telephone or through the Electronic Reference Service form.

LIBRARY INSTRUCTION

Library instruction sessions for new or returning students are conducted at the beginning of each semester. Sign-up sheets arranged by graduate school are located on the reference desk during those periods. Appointments for additional instruction on database searching, use of computers, research skills and techniques, etc. are available to classes and individuals by request.

REMOTE ACCESS


Current students, faculty and staff may access subscription databases and online journals remotely via proxy server. Contact the reference librarians or IT staff for more information.
