Language skills have been at the heart of the Monterey Institute’s educational philosophy since the beginning. There is an urgent need for people who are bilingual and multilingual and able to move easily between diverse cultures. The recent rise of English as an international language has not diminished this need; in fact, the globalization of trade and communications has increased the demand. Our graduates in the field tell us that the Institute’s emphasis on language learning and cultural understanding has prepared them unusually well to navigate this expanding global scene.
Though each of our graduate programs has its own language element, the Monterey Institute also has several non-degree language programs including:
- Intensive English Language Programs (ESL, EAPP, EPTI, CLS)
- Intensive Foreign Language Programs (SILP, WILP, CLS)
These language programs, along with language programs supporting the graduate programs, are managed by the Graduate School of Language and Educational Linguistics.
