At this time, no program at the Monterey Institute requires laptops of its students, though some programs have begun integrating laptops into their programs. Most students come with laptops and find that laptops are essential for their graduate work. We strongly encourage each incoming student to purchase a laptop for use during enrollment at the Institute.
Connect with the Windows Network to:

Access Campus Email
Students wishing to access the First Class email system need not join the Windows domain, but will need to install the First Class client to take advantage of all of the features available.
Minimum Recommended Requirements:
- 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo processor *
- 1 GB of memory *
- 80GB hard drive
- Integrated wireless 802.11b/g
- DVD/CD-RW combo drive
- USB and 32-bit sound
- Windows XP Professional (English) with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista (English) with Service Pack 1
- 3 year warranty
* Processor and memory requirements are set for students and faculty to run software relevant to their program. This software includes hand-writing technology, shared video and Internet browsing.
Security Software
We also recommend that students do not purchase and install bundles of security software, such as Norton Internet Security, Norton 360 or the McAfee suite. Please instead only use antivirus software.
Courses Requiring Additional 1.5 GB Memory
- SPSS software used in statistical analysis. (GSIPS)
- Trados language localization software. (GSTI)
Budget for an additional $500 for software.

This may be used prior to making any purchase to determine your eligibility for additional assistance.
