Alex Newhouse, deputy director of the Institute’s Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism (CTEC), discussed online extremism and mass shootings with WBUR’s “On Point.”

Newhouse explained that far-right terrorist, or militant accelerationist, communities have “arisen by virtue of how the Internet has also developed over time.” He noted that these communities can drive individuals to become detached from shared reality, sometimes leading to acts of mass violence.
