GRADUATE SCHOOL OF TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION

After 21 years of working with students and alumni in the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (GSTI), I have seen it double in size. With our new Middlebury connection, GSTI is poised to grow into a graduate school with numerous auxiliary services for governments, the professional Translation and Interpretation community, and Translation and Interpretation trainers worldwide. Alumni giving is one of the most important key factors in making GSTI the #1 Translation and Interpretation training, research and services school in the world.

The Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (GSTI) is the premier school of its kind in North America and one of the very best in the world, training translators and interpreters for work in international diplomacy, trade, science, business, and other fields.

Dean Chuanyun Bao:

"Why support the work that we do at the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation? Because the professions for which we educate people are vital — in fact, they are indispensable — to the communication, exchange, and understanding that the world so urgently needs today. Internationally focused enterprises of all kinds are calling for more and more well-trained, professional translators and interpreters, and they look to GSTI for a supply of new professionals who have the highest levels of skill and knowledge, along with practical and usable experience in this field.

"Globalization has expanded boundaries among peoples, among cultures. Contrary to what is often said, I find that this globalization feeds people’s awareness of their own cultures. Even though people around the world are learning English, there is still a strong desire for non-English-speaking countries to maintain their own cultures. The greater value people have for their own language and culture, the more the world will rely on translation and interpretation for communication. Our work provides a bridge, not only for people to communicate with each other, but also as a route for cultural interaction and cultural influence.

"Among the world’s heads of state, government agencies, businesses, international forums, and nongovernmental organizations, the GSTI has an unsurpassed reputation for providing reliable and professional translators and interpreters. We are regarded especially highly in Asia, where so much growth and expansion requires so much new communication.

Here at the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation, we are working steadily to develop, expand, and improve the work that we do. Your support for our efforts will have a genuine impact on meeting the world’s need for much greater communication, cultural exchange, and real understanding."
