FISHER GRADUATE SCHOOL OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

I've lived all over the world and when I decided to go to business school, I wanted to maintain that ability to walk five feet and hear six different languages. For me, speaking multiple languages is fundamental — and this is the only school, I think, where students who have had that experience can really feel at home. Being able to give back to an institution that holds so much meaning, for so many of us, is just a great thing. I intend to continue doing that.

The Fisher Graduate School of International Business (FGSIB) prepares global business professionals for careers in international trade, entrepreneurial business development, marketing, finance, nonprofit management, and other fields.

Dean Ernest J. Scalberg:

"Every course we teach here is from an international perspective — and this focus places the Fisher School in the forefront of how 21st century business schools need to be. We’re developing cross-cultural understanding together with language fluency. Because our graduates understand how cultures and languages interact, they have the tools to work with people in a variety of countries and cultures, to adapt products and services in ways that will succeed in foreign markets, and to design systems that can succeed in a globalized business environment.

"Businesses are recognizing that success in the international marketplace has to involve sustainability. This comes from an informed understanding of corporate social responsibility, environmental impact issues, management issues, and ethical issues. The Monterey Institute is one of the very few places that is preparing American students to be global citizens, to make a contribution to the whole world. There really is a global perspective at work here — and it’s clear that this is the way the business world is going.

"Right now at the Fisher School, we’re focusing on designing and delivering this type of learning to a much broader audience. We have a wonderful learning environment here; how do we create that environment in new locations, or online, or through other forms of delivery at a distance? This is an exciting time for us — and there is so much to invest in here that will make the world a better place."
