Professor Kathi Bailey of the Monterey Institute of International Studies received the Heinle Outstanding Achievement Award on Thursday, March 17 at the annual Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Conference in New Orleans.

"We give the Heinle Outstanding Achievement Award to individuals whose work has made a distinctive contribution to the field of English language education--through authoring, teaching, research and otherwise helping the field,” said Dennis Hogan, president of Heinle ELT. “We consider reach and scope, and our award winners all can be said to have made significant impact on a large community... We consider them all-stars."

“We all knew this about Kathi,” added Dean Renee Jourdenais of the Institute’s Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation and Language Education, “but we're thrilled that her contributions to the field of TESOL have been recognized with this award and were delighted to celebrate with her at our 30th MATESOL Reunion Celebration.” Professor Bailey has been a part of the Monterey Institute’s TESOL program for the duration of its 30 years, having been hired as the first faculty member when the program was initially launched in 1981.
