Alumni Launch Scholarship Initiative in Washington, DC
October 16, 2009
At an October 14th gathering hosted by Board of International Advisors member Gene Theroux, MIIS alumni and friends kicked off an effort designed to increase the Institute’s financial aid offerings and build participation in giving among members of its expansive DC network.
Conceived of by a group of alumni (see Winter 2009 Communique), the annual DC Scholarship will be awarded to one returning student from the Graduate School of International Policy and Management and one returning student from the Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation, and Language Education, with a preference for those who have or will be completing an internship or other professional experience in DC between their first and second years at the Institute.
Donors will have an opportunity to hear directly from the Scholarship recipients about their MIIS experience, and the recipients will learn more about the impact of alumni giving back – a tradition the Scholarship’s founders hope the recipients will continue upon their graduation, “Many people can come together, make modest financial contributions, and have a significant impact. That’s our goal.”
