Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey
What does the Center for the Blue Economy offer students?

A Rigorous and Relevant Academic Program

To make a difference on the international stage today, global marine policy professionals must be trained to navigate an extremely complex web of marine laws and treaties, economic trends and incentives, and political dynamics. They must know cutting-edge science, but they must also understand law, politics, and business. A concentration in Ocean and Coastal Resource Management will impart a sophisticated understanding of institutional processes and teach practical skills across the social and natural sciences.

A Widely Respected Research Arm

A "think and do tank" housed at the Center will seek to demonstrate the value of ocean and coastal resources and ensure that these valuations are incorporated into policy and business decision. This research arm will carry on the study of critical ocean problems currently being conducted by the National Ocean Economics Program, already located at the Institute. In addition to building on the work of the Program, the Center for the Blue Economy will support research on coastal zone management to improve ocean health and mitigate the impacts of climate change.
