Why locate the Center for the Blue Economy at the Institute?
The Institute is located in the epicenter of some of the world's premier marine science and policy institutions, in addition to being surrounded by protected natural areas long valued for their breathtaking beauty and economic value.
The Institute's robust and renowned International Environmental Policy program is prepared to expand its curricular offerings, research, and policy work on ocean governance and management. An innovative and interdisciplinary curriculum will bring together economics, law, business, science, and policy to give aspiring professionals the training they need to effect change. In addition, the Institute is already the home of the National Ocean Economics Program, which already offers influential data and analysis to government leaders.
Over the past decade, our International Environmental Policy program has graduated dozens of students with an emphasis on marine policy. Many of our students have won prestigious Sea Grant Fellowships and gone on to leadership positions in marine policy organizations around the world, such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the World Wildlife Fund. We are leaders now; with dedicated resources, we can offer world-class training.
