Veterans Educational Benefits
The Monterey Institute of International Studies is an approved institution for in-service, off-duty educational benefits provided by the Veterans Administration. Initial payments take approximately 90 days to arrive. It is recommended that students eligible for these benefits contact the Office of Student Financial Planning (OSFP) at least 3 months prior to the first day of the semester to begin the process so they can be sure checks arrive at the beginning of the student’s enrollment.
State Aid for the Disabled
The State Department of Rehabilitation provides financial help for eligible disabled students. Assistance may include the cost of tuition and fees, books and transportation.
Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA)
To be considered for Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) grant and loan money, you must be a need-eligible graduate or undergraduate student whose family holds enrollment membership from a tribe eligible for services from the Department of Education. You must be working towards a degree. To apply, mail your FAFSA to the Federal processor and contact the BIA office representing members of your tribe for a BIA grant application. The BIA is responsible for reviewing and awarding all BIA grants.
Outside Scholarships
Each year, private outside foundations and agencies offer scholarships that are announced by the Office of Student Financing and/or through academic departments. Many of these scholarships and outside resources are posted in the Office of Student Financial Planning. We strongly recommend that you research these sites prior to the date you plan to begin your studies. The earlier you begin, the greater the chances you will receive an outside scholarship or grant.
