Save by Paying Less

By now, you’ve gotten your refund checks, and I’m sure you’ve noticed that it’s not much to live on. We intentionally keep our budget low, so that your debt levels are as low as possible when you enter repayment. But, living on a budget doesn’t have to be a Punch in the Stomach!  Nor does it have to be boring!  As you read through this month's newsletter, be sure to click on all the links!  We've incorporated links to some unusual drink recipes all throughout the text of this newsletter!  Some have fun names, some just sounded good.  But all of them will save you money if you go in with some friends and make them yourselves, instead of ordering them in a bar!  Living on a budget shouldn't be boring!  Have fun with it!

This month, we offer you suggestions on ways to fulfill your champagne wishes on your beer budgets.

Hopefully you read last month’s newsletter If you didn’t, take half an hour to do so. We cover the importance of creating, and sticking to, your in-school budget. You may find that your fixed expenses, like rent and utilities are hogging your funds. That may leave you with very little for things like gas, groceries, and other household must-haves. New clothes may seem like a thing of the past! And Entertainment? What is that??

Well, first things first, don’t forget what brought you to beautiful Monterey in the first place. It wasn’t the shopping, or the golf. (At least we hope that wasn’t what brought you here!) You came here to get an education. And 80% of you are living on borrowed funds. Which means that every dollar you spend today, needs to be paid back with your future earnings.  So bear that in mind. EVERY DOLLAR YOU SPEND TODAY NEEDS TO BE PAID BACK, WITH INTEREST.

There, we said it. But don’t let your finances give you a Nervous Breakdown.

After all, we live here too: We know that the Monterey Peninsula is an expensive place to live. So how are you supposed to pay for this caviar, when your budget will only allow for a can of sardines? It’s not easy, but trust us, you can do it.

Next: Entertaining
