The Federal Work Study Program is a type of financial aid that allows students who have been awarded FWS to work part-time, as a paid position, either on campus or off campus. Federal Work study earnings are partially funded by federal monies which are intended to help pay for education expenses such as housing and transportation while in school.
Institute Work-Study
A work program for students who are not on Federal Financial Aid, or who have not been awarded federal work study. International students may work on campus under the Institute Work Study Program. Full-time students may work up to 20 hours per week. If you are a new student, you cannot begin working until after your first day of classes. No FAFSA is required for participation in the Institute Work-Study program.
For Federal Work-Study students, the maximum amount a student may earn is determined by the total amount listed on the students financial aid award letter with an annual limit of $4,000. For Institute Work-Study, earnings are decided by the hiring supervisor. Student employment positions are paid on a bi-weekly basis and the amount earned depends on the number of hours a student works and the hourly pay rate. The minimum hourly rate is $9.
Students are limited to work 20 hours per week during the academic year. Students may have more than one job, but the total hours for both jobs must not exceed 20 hours per week.
Federal Work Study students working on campus will receive an ID number and password to log into Banner to record the number of hours worked. Students working off campus will need to complete a MIIS work study time sheet as well. Time sheets must be submitted every other Friday. Students may pick up their paychecks at the cashier's office or request direct deposit.
Work-Study jobs on campus are within administrative and academic departments offering convenient hours and locations. Students working off campus may either work for a non-profit organization with no restrictions on job duties OR in a for profit organization with the job restricted to the studnet's major. Available work-study jobs are listed above under On Campus or Off Campus FWS. When finding a job you are interested in please apply as indicated on the job posting.
