mcgowan Building

411 Pacific Street

FGSIB, Faculty Offices, Classrooms, CNS

The Building's History

Named in honor of William McGowan, founder of telecommunication firm MCI, this three-story building holds our business school, FGSIB (Fisher Graduate School of International Business), the CNS research department, CEAS (Center for East Asian Studies) and four commercial tenants.

The Fisher School was named after benefactors Robert and Marilyn Fisher. The James Irvine Foundation was instrumental in helping the Fisher School restructure its academic program and curriculum in the 1990s.

Current Uses

There are two stadium-style classrooms, a seminar room and faculty offices located on the 2nd & 3rd floors. The building was acquired through a grant from the William McGowan Foundation which continues its interest and support in the business school through grants and scholarships.
