Center for Nonproliferation Studies, CRES
The James Martin Center for Non-Proliferation Studies (CNS) sits on the corner of Pacific Avenue and Franklin Street and consists of two buildings joined by a second-floor balcony. The original adobe structure was known as the Capitular Adobe and was built by Guy Freeman Fling of Sonora, California in 1834. Roger Post, a prominent local land owner and architect, was the original owner for many years. The original one-story building has changed over the years – a second story was added in 1966 and the front facade was removed. It is a locally-listed historic resource that appears eligible for the National Register/California Register.
It is used for the CNS offices, which was recently named in the honor of British-born Dr. James Martin who made a significant donation to the Monterey Institute. |
