Selection Criteria

IPSS is an opportunity for a limited number of students. We are looking for those who are determined to take advantage of this opportunity.

Students who are provisionally accepted must meet the following criteria:

1. Cumulative GPA: Students who apply for IPSS during their second semester at MIIS (majority of applicants) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. They must also have a GPA of 3.5 or higher in degree, program, and specialization-specific coursework.

Applicants in their first semester at MIIS (February start), must show an unofficial or official copy of their most recent undergraduate or graduate transcript for review by the selection committee. There is no required undergraduate GPA for these students, as GPAs vary by school and program. See application process for further instructions.

Note: Acceptance to IPSS is provisional through the proceeding fall semester. In other words, students accepted to the program this May must maintain high academic and professional performance through the end of the semester. IPSS faculty review GPAs again in the summer once spring grades have been submitted.

2. Completion of Degree Requirements: Students who plan to enroll in IPSS courses during their final semester must meet all other degree requirements (not fulfilled by IPSS courses) prior to the start of IPSS. Students who will return for their final semester in the fall following completion of IPSS must show that they can complete all degree requirements within four semesters.

3. Seriousness of Purpose and Professionalism: IPSS is looking for mature students who are self-starters and can operate with minimal guidance. The ideal IPSS fellow will understand the benefit of IPSS to their career development, and be willing to meet all deadlines, show initiative in selecting and working with an organization prior to departure for assignment, and be able to accomplish research away from the Monterey Institute.
