Important Application Updates!

For detailed information about fellowships and application procedures, visit the official program website. Below are important updates to the application process for 2012-2013:

  • Applicants must have 3 years of professional experience in the ESL field to be considered elligible.
  • Overseas experience is required.
  • One of your recommendation letters must be from a current or most recent supervisor. Applications which do not have a letter from a supervisor will not be considered.
  • Graduate transcripts must be uploaded in PDF format through the online application. If your qualifying degree was awarded by a non-U.S. institution, you must have your degree evaluated by an educational credential evaluation service. Visit the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services for a list of evaluation companies.

About the Program

The English Language (EL) Fellow Program promotes English language learning around the world and fosters mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those of other countries. It places talented, highly qualified U.S. educators with Master’s degrees with a focus in TEFL/TESL or Applied Linguistics in all regions of the world.

The EL Fellow Program is funded by the U.S. Department of State (DOS) within the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), Office of English Language Programs, and is administered nationally by the Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) at Georgetown University, Washington, DC.

 

A Lasting Partnership: MIIS and the ELF Program

The Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation, and Language Education at MIIS is proud to partner with Georgetown University and the Center for Intercultural Education and Development. As a Regional Recruitment Center, MIIS aids in sending highly qualified MATESOL holders throughout the Southwest Region to countries abroad to promote the study of English as a foreign language and to enhance EFL teaching.
