Advising Philosophy
I see my advisees as unique individuals and approach advising on that individual basis. I think it’s important to understand an advisee's background and long-term goals before we launch into the advising relationship. I see it as a partnership, and enjoy helping advisees identify and then answer their own questions. A big part of my role is listening and then offering guidance toward each advisee fulfilling her or his academic and career goals. While I customize my approach to each student's unique needs, all students benefit from my emphasis on developing crucial life skills. These skills, along with academic achievement, help to facilitate an effective job search campaign. Students are focused on the search for an internship and that first job, post-graduation, while my colleagues and I aim to ensure that students leave here equipped with the tools, knowledge, confidence and professionalism to secure the second, fifth, or perhaps even tenth job over the lifespan of their careers.
