McCone, Center for Advising and Career Services
Dean of Advising, Careers and Student Services
The days of careers with predictable upward trajectories are a thing of the past. Students are graduating into a world of work that is ambiguous, hyper-competitive, and unpredictable...yet still full of opportunities. In the face of the constant change today's graduates encounter as professionals, it's most critical to leave the Monterey Institute with a set of career planning skills that include resiliency. In an attempt to facilitate that, I begin working with students before they arrive for New Student Orientation and continue to work with them long after commencement.
The personalized advising I provide students and alumni complements the offerings we deliver through the Center for Advising and Career Services. We take the skills garnered from every class, guest presentation, and workshop, and customize the information to suit their unique backgrounds, needs, and short-term career goals. While students and alumni understand they are ultimately responsible for the shapes of their careers; they benefit from the fact that I'm here to coach them through each phase of this multi-layered process.
