Dayton’s enthusiasm for international learning and development began early in his career. After earning his B.A. in International Relations at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) in 1983, Dayton then served two years with Miami’s European branch in Luxembourg. In 1988, Dayton earned his MBA in International Management here at Monterey Institute of International Studies.
He served Wittenberg University (Springfield, Ohio) for six years as Director of International Admission and then honored the call to return to Monterey as the Monterey Institute’s Chief Recruitment Officer in 1996. Fellow Monterey Institute alumni founded AMT Group, a management training and consulting firm in Tokyo; and Dayton joined the team in 1999 as the Director of Promotion and Development. Dayton served a wide variety of international clients while in Tokyo including: NOKIA, Fuji-Xerox, VOLVO, and Japanese global trading giant, ITOCHU. Eventually-- eight active years later-- Dayton returned to California’s Central Coast in 2007 and with a fellow MIIS alum, launched the management consulting firm DHC / Developing Human Capital.
Now full time with the Center for Advising and Career Services at MIIS, Dayton actively volunteers with many civic organizations, namely Rotary, serving at home and abroad including recent projects in rural Guatemala and Belize. Dayton also served as the GSE (Group Study Exchange) Team Leader to guide the Team to Brazil.
Having trained, coached and consulted clients and students from over 100 nations, Dayton appreciates diversity and creates win-win-win scenarios with each new situation.
With all my global travels over the years, one universal truth resounds: we all desire to be needed and valued in our respective village. I champion the firm conviction that everyone deserves the opportunity to add value to a team, achieve a sense of purpose in their chosen livelihood, and realize personal dreams along their career path
