J.R. Williams


J.R. Williams is a First Vice President-Investments and Certified Investment Management Analyst with the investment firm of Wachovia Securities, Inc. in Carmel, California. He has been a professional financial advisor on the Monterey Peninsula for the past 13 years. He currently acts as investment advisor to over 700 individual accounts and numerous retirement plans in the area.

Mr. Williams is a 1993 graduate of the Monterey Institute of International Studies with a Masters Degree in Business Administration, concentrating on Finance. He also holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1982.

Previous to his attending MIIS, Mr. Williams spent the period of 1984-1991 in international development work in West Africa. Beginning with a term of service with the Peace Corps as a Water Resources Management volunteer in the Republic of Mali, he worked as a consultant for various international organizations including USAID, GTZ, UNICEF and World Vision, focusing primarily on disaster relief logistics management in West African countries.

A resident of Monterey, Mr. Williams is an active member of the local community. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustee's of the Monterey Institute of International Studies and is Vice-Chair of the Advancement committee for the MIIS board. In addition he is a member of the Board of Directors for the League of WWI Aviation historians and serves as their Vice-President for Marketing and Advancement. He is a Past President of the Monterey Peninsula Host Lions Club, having been an active member of the club for seven years. He also served a two-year term as a board member of the New Monterey Business Association. In addition, he has participated in local United Way campaigns, as an Allocations Committee Chairperson, and has volunteered for the past 12 years at the AT&T Pebble Beach golf tournament.

Mr. Williams. is married with one child. His hobbies include baseball, golf and military history.
