Russell J. Leng is the James Jermain Professor Emeritus of Political Economics and International Law at Middlebury College. Professor Leng taught for forty years at Middlebury College, where he also held a variety of administrative positions, including Dean of Sciences. After receiving his B.A. from Middlebury, he served in the U.S. Army for two years, before returning to complete a Ph.D. at American University and joining the Middlebury faculty in 1966.
A former president of the International Peace Research Society (International), Professor Leng has received international recognition for his research on bargaining and learning in international conflicts. His works include International Crisis Behavior: 1816-1980: Realism v. Realpolitik (Cambrige U. Press) and Bargaining and Learning in Recurring Crises: The Soviet-American, Egyptian-Israeli, and Indo-Pakistani Rivalries (U. of Michigan Press), as well as over fifty articles in scholarly journals.
Professor Leng continues to teach an upper-level seminar each year, as well as directing Middlebury's Alumni College, and remaining an active scholar. An avid golfer and sailor, he lives in Middlebury, with his wife Priscilla, who is the financial officer for the Keewaydin Foundation. |
