GSTI Welcomes Alumni as Recruiters at Annual Career Fair

The Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation's (GSTI) Annual Career Fair is unique in the world, hosting a range of national and international employers seeking young professionals for internships and professional positions as project managers, localization software managers, in-house translators, and conference, court, in-house and medical interpreters.

Coordinated yearly by Jeff Wood, director of Career Services and Enrollment Management for GSTI, the 2007 fair shattered previous employer records, with a whopping 70 on-site and virtual participants. While all recruiters are encouraged to attend the fair (many returning year after year), none are more welcome than the alumni who return to play their "new" role as recruiters to the more than 200 students who attend.

Many thanks to the 18 GSTI alumni who attended the 2007 Fair, for their support and their commitment to the Monterey Institute.

TESOL Alumni Sweep into Seattle for the International TESOL Conference

More than 100 TESOL alumni joined President Clara Yu, Dean Ruth Larimer (Graduate School of Language and Educational Linguistics-GSLEL), Professor Kathi Bailey, Director of Alumni Relations Leah Gowron, MPA '97, Therese Tishakov, TESOL '04 and a host of TESOL faculty, current students and even a few local alumni for an alumni event in Seattle on March 22, 2007.

At the event, held in conjunction with the International TESOL Conference, President Yu welcomed alumni and shared her own stories of arriving to the United States as a young international student, and working with TESOL instructors. Always the show stopper, Professor Kathi Bailey captured the crowd's attention with a "what year are you from" round of introductions with the entire audience.

The TESOL program at the Monterey Institute is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and this event set the stage for more activities, events and gatherings with this dynamic crowd.
