Film Screening of The Whisperers 2/21/08
GSTI, in conjunction with the Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) hosted a screening of “The Whisperers” to a packed audience in the Irvine Auditorium. This documentary followed six interpreters, belonging to different generations, through the jungle of international communications from the Chancellery in Berlin to Strasbourg, the Hague, and Brussels, from Geneva to Djibouti, and into the history of their profession back to the Nurenberg trials. The audience, consisting mostly of GSTI students, faculty and alumni, were brought to laughter on numerous occasions (clearly "insider" translation/interpretation jokes!) and those attendees that are not part of the interpreting community left with newfound respect and admiration for the daily rigours and critical roles that these professionals play.
Special thanks to alumnus and GSTI faculty member Barry Olson (CI 99) for his role in bringing the screening to the Institute campus!

With a panel of alumni and current students (Max Perleman MBA/IEP '08 representing Monterey), the topic of Asia Rising was part of the program, as well as a fascinating video highlighting the campaign goals. Look for future Initiative events taking place across the country over the next six months!
