What are your favorite places to study, hang out, and get outdoors in Monterey?
One of my favorite things to do in Monterey is going for beach walks. I love being in a place where we have clean beaches teeming with marine wildlife. I often get to see sea otters and seals from the shore. I also enjoy going for runs or bike rides on the recreational trail along the coast.
When it comes to reading and studying, Cafe Lumiere or East Side are my favorites. Nothing beats a cool atmosphere and a nice place to have a beer or some coffee while studying."
What internships or jobs have you had while attending MIIS?
My main position is working as the graduate sustainability assistant for the Institute. My job requires that I work with faculty, staff, and students to develop and implement strategies to make the university more sustainable, which feeds into our goal to emit zero green-house gases by 2016.
What are your career aspirations?
During the summer, I worked with the National Ocean Economics Program based at the Center for the Blue Economy, where I did research on non-market valuation of coastal and marine resources and activities.
I want to continue working in developing countries with sustainable coastal development. My goal is to integrate cultural norms, community bonds, environmental assets, and economic sustainability into frameworks that lend themselves to efficient and sustainable management of coastal natural resources. I want to focus on non-market valuation and payment for ecosystem services as mechanism that promote environmental well-being while stimulating local economies.

Fun fact about you...
I have lived on four continents in five different countries and have traveled to almost 40 countries. I am also a certified archery instructor.
If I was a food, I would be...?
Definitely chickpeas, so versatile and delicious.
What has been the highlight of your MIIS experience thus far?
This is a hard one, but I think the TEDxMonterey: "Sea Change" event is at the top of my list.
Anything else you want to include?
I am an avid vegetarian cook, and I make my own kombucha. I am also a yogi, which I have found to be great for stress management for school.
