“Ten Years After 9/11” will be the focus of a September 9 panel at the Monterey Institute.

MIIS to Mark 10th Anniversary of 9/11 with Public Discussion with Faculty Experts

The Monterey Institute of International Studies will host a public panel titled “Ten Years After 9/11: Reflections on the Global Jihad” on Friday, September 9 from 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Irvine Auditorium inside the McCone Building at 499 Pierce Street in downtown Monterey.

The panel will feature faculty experts from the Institute’s Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies (NPTS) degree program and Monterey Terrorism Research and Education Program (MonTREP) discussing the continuing global impact of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, with special focus on the aftereffects felt in the United States, the Arab World, South Asia, and Russia and the Caucasus Region.

Moderated by Dr. Fred Wehling, chair of the Institute’s Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies degree program, the panel will feature:

  • Dr. Jeffrey M. Bale, associate professor of terrorism studies and director of MonTREP
  • Dr. Ibrahim Al-Marashi, assistant professor of Middle East history, Department of History, California State San Marcos, and adjunct professor at MIIS
  • Dr. Gordon Hahn, senior researcher at MonTREP and adjunct professor at MIIS
  • Dr. Sharad Joshi, assistant professor of terrorism studies at MIIS

A question and answer period will follow the panelists’ presentations. This event is free and open to the public.
