US Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited college/university. (Students with three-year bachelor’s degrees must apply for Two-year programs.)
Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0. scale
Low Grade Point Average (GPA) Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 should consider submitting official GRE scores and/or taking several graduate level courses at an accredited college/university to demonstrate their ability to perform well at the graduate level.
In-country Experience Applicants to GSTI are strongly recommended to have studied or worked for a minimum of six months in a country where their second or third language is spoken.
All applicants to GSTI must be at near-native proficiency in English and at least one other language: Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, or Spanish. All students must submit an Early Diagnostic Test (EDT) in their proposed languages of study with their application. The test is self-administered and will be evaluated by GSTI. To request an EDT, contact the Admissions Office at (831) 647-4123 or by e-mail at admit@miis.edu. When requesting an EDT, please include your native language and other languages you plan to study during your GSTI program. Please note: If the EDT is submitted after May 1, there may be some delay in evaluating it for the fall semester.
Non-native Speakers of English Non-native speakers of English are required to provide proof of English proficiency by submitting scores from either the TOEFL or IELTS examinations.
- TOEFL minimums: 600 (paper) 250 (computer) 100 (internet)
- IELTS minimums: 7.0 overall score, 7.0 on listening and reading sub-scores and no sub-score below 6.5 on writing and speaking on the Academic module
Advanced Entry Program Applicants must meet GSTI's general admission requirements and achieve the highest EDT score(s). They must also hold a degree from a recognized school of translation and/or interpretation OR provide evidence of significant professional experience. Students must demonstrate preparedness to enter second-year courses by passing second-year entrance exams in their intended course of study.
Non-degree Program Students who do not plan to study for a degree must meet the same requirements as those studying for a degree. Some exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. |
