Academic Credit

FMS 2-week Training  (0-5 credits)

The FMS training and field course can be taken for academic credit or as a non-credit professional training program. About a third of participants seek academic credit from MIIS for portions of their FMS experience.

The 2-week training can be taken for 0-5 graduate credits at the Middlebury Institute.

Participants can complete the entire 2-week training and simply register for certain modules for academic credit (each 2-day module is worth 1 unit).

FMS Field Experience Fellowship (0-6 credits)

Institute students enrolled in the IPD, MPA, IEP or MBA tracks are eligible to complete a customized field course to gain academic credit while completing an FMS fellowship.

MBA: Social Enterprise and Finance Research Project

This is a customized research project where students will identify a leading research question and work with a professional mentor throughout the process of producing a professional-grade social venture report. For more information, contact Dr. Yuwei Shi.

DPP: Capstone Options

DPP students can complete a Development Practicum, DPMI Plus, IPSS, or Independent Practicum project while completing an FMS field assignment.

Other Degrees: Directed Study

Fulltime MIIS graduate students in any degree program can propose a directed study course for 1-6 units for a project completed while on an FMS field assignment. Talk to your career and academic advisor for more information.
