Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey

Tyler Fellowship

The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey is pleased to invite applications from visiting scholars for the Tyler Visiting Fellowship in Residence program, now in its second year.

Made possible through a gift from William H. and Susanne S. Tyler, the Fellowship is the first award of its kind at the Institute. It serves to identify and attract scholars and practitioners who are experts in their fields and who contribute substantially to their area of expertise. The Tyler Fellows will, in the words of Middlebury President Laurie L. Patton, “engage in a currency of excellence,” and will raise the overall stature of the Middlebury Institute and the broader Middlebury community.

Fellows will spend one week on the Monterey campus during the spring semester, working with Institute faculty and providing them with the opportunity to improve their own skill set, to tap into new technologies, and to expand their networks. The special talent and knowledge provided by the Fellows will create rich learning opportunities for our students, who will be encouraged to work side by side with these distinguished individuals.

As Mr. Tyler said when he made this gift, “The expertise of the Fellows will add to the Middlebury Institute’s stature, and will provide students with unparalleled opportunities.”

Tyler Visiting Fellows will receive a stipend and travel expenses will be covered.

Interested applicants for the Tyler Visiting Fellowship in Residence should send their CV and indicate two weeks of availability for residency at the Middlebury Institute during the months of February through late April. Please send application materials by Wednesday, November 15, 2017 to mlaughlin@miis.edu.
