The Monterey Terrorism Research and Education Program seeks to employ the Institute students in a variety of positions that contribute to overall organizational needs. The three types of positions MonTREP offers are:

  • Graduate Research Assistant (GRA): Performs research for MonTREP or MonTREP professors.
  • Graduate Assistant (GA): Performs administrative or other work related to MonTREP’s mission.
  • Teacher’s Assistant (TA): Works with a professor on course development for a specific course.

Graduate Research Assistant for Professor Joshi

This GRA position will work directly with Professor Joshi on research for various terrorism studies related topics. Work involves researching, drafting, and editing content for various research projects. There is also potential for work on curriculum development/TA tasks for current and upcoming seminars. This position may also be required to perform ad hoc research and administrative tasks related to MonTREPs mission.

Required Qualifications:

- Knowledge of relevant terrorism/counterterrorism issues;

- Excellent writing and analysis skills;

- Knowledge of and experience conducting scholarly research;

- Demonstrated ability to work independently, at times with minimum supervision;

- Professional proficiency with the MS Office suite.

- Foreign language research experience, critical languages are a plus.

While not required, the following qualifications are also desirable:

- MANPTS/Terrorism Studies Certificate or MA student;

- Experience working with research institutions or government/international organizations;

- Experience with social media analysis and database management;

- Familiarity with basic media platforms, Word press, YouTube, etc.

Typically, positions are for between 5-15 hours and can be paid, based on work-study eligibility.
